چکیده

Fetal medicine is a rapidly progressing new field. Numerous fetal abnormalities have been accurately detected prenatally with recently developed technologies such as cardiotocography, ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging. It has long been recognized that some of these abnormalities are better treated in utero to achieve favorable outcomes; however, currently available techniques for fetal therapy have been proved to have a limited clinical effectiveness. For example, congenital diaphragmatic hernia in its severe form, which is basically lethal after birth, can now be repaired during fetal life by fetal surgery.1 This congenital defect causes lung hypoplasia, which is essentially untreatable after birth. Therefore congenital diaphragmatic hernia is a strong candidate for fetal surgery if it is clinically effective. However, due to the difficulty in controlling uterine activity following open fetal surgery, the technique has not yet been recognized as a standard approach for treating the disease. Indeed, uncontrollable uterine activity is one of the most troublesome complications of open fetal surgery in humans because premature delivery immediately after the surgery makes all the obstetrical and surgical efforts meaningless for the prognosis of the affected fetus. For researchers and clinicians in the field of perinatal medicine, it appears that the primate uterus is extraordinarily sensitive to external stimuli compared with that of other species such as the sheep. Therefore, for establishing fetal surgery as a standard clinical technique, it is extremely important to develop a new system for those fetuses unprepared for an extrauterine environment, which were obliged to be born due to a too sensitive uterus following fetal surgery. In this article, an approach for the extrauterine incubation of premature fetuses/the newborn is described. Incubation of a fetus with an artificial apparatus has been a dream of human beings for very many years. In 1932, in a novel titled Brave New World, Aldous Huxley described a kind of artificial placenta:

Aberrant effect of genistein on placenta development expressed through alteration in transforming growth factor-β1 and alkaline phosphatase across the maternal serum, the placenta and the amniotic fluid

Objective(s): The mechanism via which genistein, the major isoflavone content of soya, adversely influenced placenta and fetal development was evaluated in pregnant laboratory rats.Materials and Methods: There were control, 2 mg/kg and 4 mg/kg genistein groups of rats with five sub-groups based on gestation termination day. At the end of...

P-27: The Effect of Oral Morphine Consumptionon Plasma Corticosteron Density and PlacentaDevelopment in Pregnant Wistar Rats

Background: Previous studies have shown that morphine consumption during pregnancy may delay embryo development or cause abnormal nervous system function .The most attention of research focuses on the embryo, whereas it was not attended to the placenta as an important organ which is affected by opioides. The present study focused on the effect of maternal morphine consumption on development of ...

The Assessment of Feto-Maternal Hemorrhage in an Artificial Model Using Anti-D and Anti-Fetal Hemoglobin Antibody by Flow Cytometry

Background: When fetal red cells enter the maternal circulation from placenta, an event would be happened that is described as feto-maternal hemorrhage (FMH). This life-threatening condition could be detected by using RBC antigens (surface antigens and intracellular antigens). Therefore, the measurement of fetal RBC in an artificial model would be useful to calculate FMH and consequently the do...

Artificial Neural Network for Transfer Function Placental Development: DCT and DWT Approach

The aim of our study is to propose an approach for transfer function placental development using ultrasound images. This approach is based to the selection of tissues, feature extraction by discrete cosine transform DCT, discrete wavelet transform DWT and classification of different grades of placenta by artificial neural network and especially the multi layer perceptron MLP. The proposed appro...

P-122: Morphine Effects on Placental Layers in Wistar Rats

Background: Experiments have shown that opioid drugs abuse during pregnancy can cause a delay in the development of the placenta. In mammals, the placenta is the most important channel for the exchange of Materialss between the maternal and fetal bloods. The present study investigates the time-dependent effect of the addiction duration of maternal morphine consumption during pregnancy. Material...

Development of an Improved Fuzzy Approach to Model Potential Sites for Groundwater Artificial Recharge

Delineation of potential sites for groundwater artificial recharge is an important and challenging task. The purpose of this research is to develop a new data-driven fuzzy approach to model potential sites for groundwater artificial recharge. To achieve this end, the efficient criteria of a proper site for groundwater artificial recharge were first recognized and presented as a conceptual model...
